Introduction::
  A recent development in the field of science and technology lead to the emergence of an applied science known as Biotechnology. Biotechnology is a fusion of both biology and technology. Biotechnology is a research-oriented science which includes various subjects like Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Chemistry, Virology, Immunology, Engineering, Health and Medicine, Cropping System and Crop Management, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Soil Science and Soil Conservation, Ecology, Bio-statistics, Cell Biology, Seed Technology, Plant Physiology etc. Biotechnology features the use of living cells and bacteria in the industrial process. Biotechnology can be applied in developing various vaccines, medicines and diagnostics, improving energy production and conservation and increasing productivity.

Course Details:

Numerous under-graduates courses like B.Sc., B.E. and B. Tech. and post-graduate courses like M.Sc, M. Tech in Biotechnology are available in India. Minimum qualification required for B.Sc., B.E. and B. Tech. courses is 10+2 with science. All sciences, engineering, technology and medicine graduates are eligible for Post-Graduates courses. Selection is done through entrance exams conducted by the concerned institutions. In Post graduate level, you can find specializations in the field of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, Marine and Bio- Medicine. Advanced courses are also available such PhD. and Post-Doctoral Research in Biotechnology.
Nature of Work:
 
A good network of research laboratories, rich biodiversity, well developed base industries, rich agriculture sector and trained manpower has made India one of the best destinations for biotechnology industry. Biotechnologists have a great scope in the pharmaceutical companies, agricultural, chemical and allied industries and research laboratories, areas of production, planning and management of bioprocessing industries. Biotechnology professionals work as research scientists or assistants in Research laboratories run by government or corporate sector.

Remuneration:

Biotechnology is a highly rewarding career option. Pay packages for Biotechnologists employed in public sector industries and research institutes depends on the norms fixed by government. Bio tech degree holders working in private sector corporate houses and industries may get Rs. 10,000 to Rs 12,000 per month. Those employed as teachers in private collages and institutions get better profitable pay packages.
Thus, Biotechnology is a preferred career option among youngster.
Eligibilty:
 
H.Sc./Pre-degree Passed with Biology/Botany and Zoology with Physics/Chemistry.
