Forensic science
Forensic science is primarily concerned with the application of scientific principles for the investigation of crime. Forensic scientists study evidence (such as hair, fibres, discharged bullets or blood) from the scene of the crime in an attempt to nail the culprit. They largely work in forensic laboratories although they have to visit the scene of crime along with police officers and other investigating authorities in order to collect evidence.
Criminology
Criminology deals with the scientific study of crime. While some criminologists work with forensic scientists scouting for evidence on the crime scene and later in labs, others work with psychologists, social workers and rehabilitation experts. Correctional administration is as much a part of criminology today as is forensic testing. Professionals in the field may, therefore, be involved in law enforcement, correctional administration or counselling.
