The field of medical studies has witnessed widespread development over years. The medical profession is constantly regenerated by new ideas and new technologies.
Nature of Work:
The Major areas in Medical Fields are:
MBBS(Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery).
BDS(Bachelor of Dental Surgery)-A dentists job includes treatment of diseased teeth and gums, extraction of irreparably damaged teeth, filling of painful cavities, surgery of the mouth and jaw, corrective work to align and straighten teeth, making and fitting of dentures etc.
Literally speaking, dentistry is concerned with all the health problems afflicting the mouth and teeth. Beyond that it also has a cosmetic aspect and people especially in professions like movies or television, to enhance their looks, get their teeth and jaws aligned. It has become a very lucrative profession with the increasing awareness of oral hygiene as well as looks.
BHMS(Bachelor of Homeopathic Medical Science)-Homeopathy is a method of treating disease by administering drugs in small doses that actually have symptoms of the disease.Homeopathy has proven strength in the treatment of allergic disorders, skin diseases, children\’s problems, several so called surgical problems like piles, tonsillitis, sinusitis, menstrual disorders, life style diseases etc.
A German scientist, Hahnemann first demonstrated that homeopathy could be used as a natural method of therapy in 1806. He found that any substance that produced symptoms of illness in a healthy individual could also produce curative effects in a sick person. He stated that what a substance can cause, it can cure. He found that the closer the similarity between the physical symptoms of the remedy and the drug picture (the symptoms that the drug produces in a healthy person), the better the healing effect. When given the right remedy, the vital force within the person was restored. In a sick human body, this vital force becomes temporarily unsound by the illness. At this juncture, by introducing a similar affliction into the body, it is able to return to a normal healthy state. The aim of homoeopathy is to provide a rapid, gentle and safe method of treatment and cure, to restore a sense of health and well being on the mental and emotional levels as well as the physical. It is equally effective in dealing with long-term chronic ailments and acute illnesses like \’flu\’ viruses, coughs and colds Homeopathic remedies, while being profoundly powerful when correctly prescribed, are highly diluted, and therefore utterly bereft of harmful side effects. They have their initial reaction at the primary level of disturbance, the energy level or vitality, and stimulate the natural self-healing processes to restore order in the way most beneficial to the individual.
Individuals can set up private practice on their own .In addition they can take up teaching assignments in colleges teaching homoeopathy. Yet another option is to join the ministry of health and family planning under the Govt. of India or the respective state governments.
BAMS(Bachelor Of Ayurveda Medical Science)-An ancient Indian system of medicine.Ayurvedic therapies are beneficial to the maintenance of good health and prevention of disease and promotes sense of well being through holistic therapy.
Ayurveda means literally the \’science of longevity\’. Ayurveda is basically a humoural medical system that maintains that there are three essential humours, which cause disease if they become imbalanced. These three humours being Vata (wind) Pitta (Bile) and Kapha (phlegm). According to the Ayurvedic system, people are born in a state of equipoise but lose it, either through bad diet, bad treatment or moving away from the physical location most conducive to their natural constitution and temperament. Everyone is recommended to discover for himself or herself what the optimum conditions for them might be and to try to keep himself or herself on an even keel.
BVMS(Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery)-clinical and technical skills to diagnose, treat, prevent and investigate animal diseases.
Several career options are open to graduates in veterinary science. With further developments in sciences and technology, more and more avenues are opening up at a rapid pace like never before. Dairy research institutes, large-scale dairy, piggery and poultry farms require the services of not one but several veterinarians. The areas of specialisation in this sector include production of milk, eggs and meat etc. It is amply evident that the health of all the animals on such farms is the responsibility of the veterinarians. Urban areas also need the services of veterinarians owing to the practice of keeping pets (dogs, cats and parrots) in the affluent and upper class homes. As a natural corollary, private practices of vets can flourish very well in these areas. The government also employs veterinarians as public health professionals whose services are utilised in zoos, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. The Defence Services use horses, dogs, camels, etc. Therefore they too need the services of veterinarians. Various organizations zoological research institutes employ veterinarians conduct research and development in various departments and to man their laboratories. In addition, there are the academic sections in various institutions, where experienced professionals are recruited to train the new entrants to the field. Last but not the least, postgraduates in the field of veterinary science can go in for further research and development in this sector and there contribute to the overall promotion of sciences.
BSMS(Bachelor Of Siddha Medicine$Surgery)-Siddha Medicine is the mother of all Medical Sciences. You will find the essence of Ayurveda (plant extracts), Unani, Acupressure (sensitive points), Reiki (energy field) etc., in the theories of Siddha Medicine. Siddha Medicine utilizes plant extracts and metal oxides and chanting of mantra is done during the preparation of medicines.
BNYS(Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science)-diseases arise due to accumulation of toxins in the body. If the toxins are removed, cure happens. Hence the cure is centered on elimination of toxins, soothing the body and treatment through natural means such as air, water, heat, mud and space. The science of physical postures or yoga is employed for the prevention of diseases, promotion of health, and for deriving therapeutic benefits.
The main principle behind naturopathic medicine is the belief that the body has an innate ability to heal itself, (though the concept of self-healing does have limitations). This thinking points to the importance of supporting the body\’s natural vitality, which promotes self-cleansing, self-repair and therefore self-healing. Focusing on the immune, hormonal, nervous and detoxification/elimination systems of the body can achieve this process. Once these systems are in balance, the body can once again achieve homeostasis. To do this efficiently, Naturopathic doctors treat their patients holistically i.e. taking into consideration their individual biochemistry, biomechanics and emotional predispositions.
There are no panaceas, magic bullets, potions or remedies. Each individual has his/her own unique set of symptoms and reactions, which will, in turn, dictate the approach the Naturopathic doctor takes to treat the patient. This is why each person seeking help from a Naturopathic doctor will receive a relatively individualized treatment protocol. Naturopathic medicine is not a solitary system of care. Naturopaths work with other practitioners offering a wide range of treatments.
Naturopathy is often practiced in combination with other forms of alternative medicines such as Reiki, homoeopathy acupuncture etc. Much of the advice of naturopaths is sound, e.g., exercise, quit smoking, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, practice good nutrition, etc. Naturopathy is getting increasingly popular in all countries across the globe including India, among people who wish to escape the various side effects and symptoms, which are caused by allopathic system of medicine. Hence the scope of employment in this sphere is broadening.
The candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent in Physics,Chemistry and Biology.
